MOSCOW, June 9 (RIA Novosti) – A small plane crashed in Moscow Region on Sunday, killing two, including a retired Russian Air Force officer, a police source said on Sunday.
The plane was on a training flight near the Shevlino airfield, in the Solnechnogorsky district, northwest of Moscow, when it got into a spin, crashed, and caught fire.
Media reports said on Sunday retired Lt. Col. Sergei Vasilyev of Russia’s famous Strizhi Aerobatic Display Team, was killed in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
Last Sunday, the pilot of an Extra 330 aerobatic aircraft was killed in a similar accident near Gryzlovo airfield, in Serpukhovsky district, south of Moscow, the local emergencies authorities said.
