MOSCOW, June 16 (R-Sport) – Russia pulled off a commanding 29-12 Cup win over France at the women’s rugby sevens Grand Prix Series in Marbella, Spain, on Sunday.
The Russians went undefeated in seven matches at the two-day tournament, which is widely seen as a brush-up for the World Cup in Moscow later this month.
Russia beat Wales, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Ukraine in Pool B play before knocking off Ireland in the semifinals earlier Sunday. Pavel Baranovsky’s team scored 215 tries and allowed only 41 over the course of the tournament.
The women’s sevens team was ranked second in Grand Prix Series with 18 points heading into the tournament. They sat two behind England, who won the Plate over Italy on Sunday.
