ST. PETERSBURG, June 20 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow has received no explanation from the United States over plans to establish a no-fly zone over Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.
Moscow has been concerned by reports that Washington is developing no-fly zone plans regardless of approval by the UN Security Council.
“We raised the issue with our American colleagues at the G8 summit, but they have provided no response,” Lavrov said, adding that Russia was also concerned by reports of US and Saudi Arabian arms supplies to the Syrian opposition via Turkey.
According to the latest UN data, more than 90,000 people have been killed in Syria since fighting broke out in March 2011 between government forces and rebels.
