MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - Six residents of Western Russia’s Belgorod Region were hospitalized after an explosive device, presumably a World War II ordnance, exploded in a fire they had laid to make a barbeque.
The blast took place at 21:30 Moscow time on Sunday in a forest near the village of Spornoye, when a group of young people started a fire on the ground to cook some meat, the local police department said in a statement.
“Two young people were seriously injured in the blast and were taken to an intensive care unit of a local hospital, while four were hospitalized with incised wounds,” the statement reads.
Hundreds of unexploded aviation bombs, artillery shells and other ammunition are found in Russia every year, especially in areas which saw intense fighting during the World War II.
