BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., June 24 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian boxing champion Vasyl Lomachenko has been meeting with top promoters here as he contemplates whether to box professionally in the United States, the Associated Press (AP) reports.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lomachenko, 25, has met with representatives of boxing promotional companies Top Rank, Golden Boy and Main Events.
Speaking in Beverly Hills, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum called Lomachenko “the best amateur in the history of the sport," the AP reported.
The Ukrainian boxer won the gold medal in the featherweight division at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and then claimed gold in the lightweight division at the London Olympics in 2012. He also won gold medals at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in 2009 and 2011.
Lomachenko’s adviser Egis Klimas said the boxer will likely decide whether to turn professional within the next week.
