WASHINGTON, July 1 (RIA Novosti) – A major arts festival exploring the works of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky will launch in the Hudson River Valley of New York State this week.
Bard Summerscape 2013 is a seven week-long opera, music, theater, dance, film, and cabaret festival staged by Bard College, a private liberal arts school located in Annandale-on-Hudson New York.
According to the festival’s website “The hub of these offerings is the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, this year examining the life, work, and cultural milieu of the 20th-century Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the scandal surrounding the debut of the ballet.”
Although Stravinsky is the central theme, Summerscape will also feature the US stage premiere of Russian composer Sergei Taneyev’s opera “Oresteia,” and a theatrical production of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and the Margarita.”
The festival opens July 5 and runs until August 18.
