WASHINGTON, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - A little known indie band from Chicago is currently on tour in Azerbaijan, having been selected by the US State Department to serve as an official Arts Envoy to the oil rich Caucasus nation.
Filligar, a rock quartet claiming inspiration from The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, formed in Chicago in 2000.
The band’s most recent release, “The Nerve” was nominated for the 2012 Independent Spirit award for Best Rock Album and this year the State Department invited the band to serve as cultural ambassadors, representing the "American people and their cultural values."
Having already performed in Gabala, Filligar will perform for two nights in the capital Baku July 3 and 4 before their tour culminates with a July 5 performance in Sumgait, Azerbaijan’s third largest city.
