WASHINGTON, July 2 (RIA Novosti) – Former Russian Eurovision contestant Alexei Vorobyov is set to star in the upcoming horror movie “The Vatican Tapes,” TheWrap.com, a website focusing on entertainment news out of Hollywood, has reported.
Vorobyov, who uses the English translation of his name “Alex Sparrow” internationally, will appear alongside the Oscar-nominated Djimon Hounsou and Scottish actor Dougray Scott in the film, which tells the story of “a 27-year-old woman who begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close to her, causing serious injury and death,” The Wrap reported. Exorcists from the Vatican are summoned to exorcise the demon but “it proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than they imagined.”
Vorobyov – whose father is head of security at a company in the Russian city of Tula, according to his personal website – represented Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, finishing in 16th place. He was seriously injured in a car accident in Los Angeles in January, but returned to the stage in Russia in June, hosting patriotic musical concerts in Smolesnsk and Ulyanovsk.
“The Vatican Tapes” starts shooting this month, according to The Wrap.
Updated on July 3, changing the description of Vorobyov's father to "head of security" instead of "businessman." Also corrected to say that shooting begins this month rather than next month.
