WASHINGTON, July 5 (RIA Novosti) – Former international gymnastics champion Yulia Rodina and her husband, former Russian coach Eduard Rizvanov, have opened an elite training gym in northern California, The Natomas Buzz, a news website covering the region, reported.
The Rodina Elite Gymnastics Academy is located inside an 11,240 square-foot (1,044 square-meter) warehouse in Natomas, California and is the first such elite, competitive gymnastics studio in the area, Rodina told the website.
Rodina was a member of the USSR and then Russian national gymnastics team from 1987 to 1992, and was champion at the Junior European Championships and also at the Open Cup of China in 1991.
Rodina and Rizvanov moved to California in July last year, after working as coaches on junior Olympic and elite programs in Hawaii and then in Idaho between 2006 and 2012, the Natomas Buzz reported.
“Who knows maybe from Natomas will be a future Olympic champion,” Rodina was quoted by the website as saying.
