WASHINGTON, July 5 (RIA Novosti) – Uzbek-born businessman Al Goldstein has been named “Ernst and Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year” it was announced in a press release Friday.
Goldstein was born in Soviet Uzbekistan and immigrated to the US with his family when he was 8-years-old. He sold his first business, Cashnet, an online payday loan company now operating as Enova International for $265 million after two years.
He won the entrepreneur award for his latest venture Pangea Properties, which has invested more than $100 million to rehabilitate “distressed properties in sections of Chicago, Indianapolis and Baltimore.”
Goldstein is quoted in the press release as saying: “Our goal is to revitalize underserved areas by making affordable, high-quality rental units available. In addition, through partnerships with community organizations, local government and local non-profits, we support and encourage residents to enrich and take ownership of their neighborhoods.”
