MOSCOW, July 9 (R-Sport) - Alex Burmistrov has rejoined his old team Ak Bars Kazan in Russia’s KHL, signing a two-year deal with the team after leaving the Winnipeg Jets as a restricted free agent.
The Jets retain the rights of the 21-year-old forward who reportedly lost the confidence of coach Claude Noel last season, when he scored four goals and six assists in 44 games.
"Alexander comes back to his hometown after four seasons he spent playing overseas," said a statement on the two-time KHL champion's website.
Burmistrov started out in Kazan in 2009, managing just one game before joining the Barrie Colts in the Canadian Hockey League.
He was drafted eighth overall in the 2010 NHL entry draft by the Atlanta Thrashers, where he accrued 20 points in 2010-11 before they became the Jets the following season.
Burmistrov had an unremarkable first term in Winnipeg, scoring 28 points in 76 games, but struggled for ice time in lockout-shortened 2012-13.
