KAZAN, July 9 (R-Sport) – A Russian gymnast who took home bronze at the London 2012 Olympics won gold Tuesday in the women’s all-around gymnastics at the World University Games in Kazan.

Aliya Mustafina, who finished behind US prodigy Gabby Douglas and fellow Russian Viktoria Komova in London last summer won the student games event with a score of 57.900.

Her compatriot and fellow London 2012 silver medalist Ksenia Afanaseva came second, just over a point behind. China's German-born gymnast Kim Bui claimed the bronze medal on marks of 55.200.

The win is all the more sweet for Mustafina because she has ethnic Tatar roots; Kazan is the capital of the mainly Muslim region of Tatarstan.

The gold was Russia's 25th so far during the University Games, which run through July 17.

The host nation has a commanding lead of the medal table, with Japan and South Korea sharing a distant second place with five gold medals apiece.
