NALCHIK, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - A group of unidentified gunmen attacked road police officers in Nalchik, the capital of Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, killing one officer and injuring two, an interior ministry spokeswoman said on Sunday.
“At approximately 23:30 Moscow time on Saturday [19:30 GMT], a road police squad was attacked by unidentified assailants. Three officers were injured, one of them died shortly after,” said Marina Kyasova, a spokeswoman for the republic’s interior ministry department.
A spokesman for the regional branch of the Investigative Committee said the officers were attacked when they tried to check IDs of suspicious individuals.
