MOSCOW, July 14 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow Region authorities must inspect more than 5,000 buses, the acting governor said Sunday, a day after a crash left 18 dead and 46 wounded.
A truck loaded with crushed stones crashed into a bus on Saturday, splitting the bus in two while 64 passengers were aboard, according to figures released by Russia’s Health Ministry. The bus had been traveling between the suburbs Podolsk and Kurilovo.
“We will raise the question of additional inspections of more than 5,000 buses at a meeting of the Moscow Region administration,” acting Governor Andrei Vorobyov said Sunday, adding that such inspections were critical.
While public transportation vehicles are regularly inspected, it is essential to exclude all possibilities that an accident could occur, the acting governor said. Earlier, he said his administration would initiate federal and regional legislation to toughen laws on the roads.
