KAZAN, July 14 (R-Sport) - Russia continued its record-breaking assault on the medal table at the World University Games Sunday as sambo fighter Pavel Rumyantsev won the host nation its 100th gold.

Russia has now won nearly 30 percent of the 353 gold medals available at the 27th Universiade, nine days into the 12-day event. Rumyantsev's gold in the men's 90-kilogram (200-pound) category was Russia's seventh on Sunday.

There are 105 gold medals remaining - 56 on Monday, 40 on Tuesday, and nine on Wednesday.

Russia broke the previous record of 75, set by China at the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade, on Friday. The Russians have a total of 200 medals, including 53 silver and 47 bronze, as of Sunday night.

Japan is next closest in the gold medal column with a meager 17. China is nipping at Japan's heels with 16.

The Universiade wraps up July 17.
