MOSCOW, July 16 (R-Sport) - Russian 19-year-old Daniil Kvyat will get his first taste of Formula One this week after the Toro Rosso team said Tuesday that he would be given a seat at this week’s Young Driver Test.
Kvyat is competing in the GP3 series after making a name for himself in junior formulae and will test the Toro Rosso on Friday at Britain’s Silverstone circuit, Toro Rosso said in a website statement.
He will follow Johnny Cecotto Jr. and Carlos Sainz Jr., both the sons of former racing drivers, who will test Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Kvyat won the Formula Renault Alps series last year and finished second in the main Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series. Since moving up to GP3, he has racked up three fourth-place finishes in his first eight races.
Kvyat is a member of the young driver program run by Red Bull, Toro Rosso’s parent team.
On Monday, the Sauber F1 team announced it planned to bring in 17-year-old Russian Sergei Sirotkin as a race driver next season as part of a new commercial partnership.
