BARCELONA, July 18 (R-Sport) – A back injury that kept diver Nadezhda Bazhina out of this month's World University Games back home has also ruled the Russian out of the World Aquatics Championships starting Friday in Barcelona, her coach said Thursday.
Bazhina, a two-time European goal medalist in the three-meter springboard, has been replaced for the July 19-August 4 event by rookie compatriot Diana Chaplieva, according national team coach Oleg Zaitsev.
Bazhina, 25, skipped the Universiade in the hope that her back would heal in time for the championships. The exact nature of the injury was not clear.
