WASHINGTON, July 18 (RIA Novosti) – New York-based “gypsy punk” band Gogol Bordello will release a new CD “Pura Vida Conspiracy” July 23 according to the band’s website.
Led by Ukrainian émigré Eugene Hütz and comprised of musicians from Russia and other countries, Gogol Bordello is named after the Russian-Ukrainian author Nikolai Gogol.
After releasing their first single in 1999, the band found success on the New York music scene before persistent touring in Europe won them wider attention internationally, according to the website allmusic.com.
Also an actor, Hütz starred alongside Elijah Wood in the 2005 movie “Everything is Illuminated.”
Gogol Bordello’s music is a mix of rock, ska, jazz and gypsy themes. The band’s next tour kicks off at the Green River Festival in Greenfield, Massachusetts on Saturday.
