WASHINGTON, July 22 (RIA Novosti) – A television series based on short stories by Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov and starring ‘Harry Potter’ lead Daniel Radcliffe and ‘Mad Men’ actor Jon Hamm will premier in the United States this fall, the entertainment website Deadline.com reported Monday.
The show, “A Young Doctor’s Notebook & Other Stories,” will debut on the Ovation network in the United States and has been commissioned for a second season in Britain where it first appeared last year.
A US-UK co-production, the series follows the life of a morphine-addicted doctor during the Russian Revolution, and stars Hamm as the doctor and Radcliffe as his younger self.
Stalin was an admirer of Bulgakov’s country doctor stories and on occasion would phone the writer in the middle of the night, according to biographer Simon Sebag Montefiore. Bulgakov today is best remembered for the classic anti-Stalin novel “The Master and the Margarita.”
