MOSCOW, July 22 (R-Sport) – Finnish center Matti Kuparinen, who played last season with Russian hockey team Avangard Omsk, will return home after signing a one-year deal with Helsinki-based HIFK of the SM-liiga, Avangard said on its website Monday.
Kuparinen, 28, had three goals, five assists and 36 penalty minutes in 30 games with the KHL club last season after leaving KalPa in October. Avangard terminated the forward’s contract earlier this month.
Kuparinen has 53 goals and 138 assists in 427 appearances in the SM-liiga, Finland's top hockey league. His contract with HIFK, the 2010-11 champions, contains a one-year team option.
