MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) - A crime boss of Georgian origin has been detained in central Russia about a week before he planned to get married, the local Interior Ministry said Monday.
“A Georgian national, who has previously served four prison terms, was arrested in his expensive car that he was driving without a license,” the ministry said in a statement, without specifying when the man was held.
The unnamed 36-year-old suspect, who was detained in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, "did not hide his status in the heirarchy of the criminal underworld from the police," the statement said.
The man was resident in Russia illegally, having being ordered to leave the country in 2012. He decided “to stay around longer as he planned to marry a Nizhny Novgorod woman on July 27. It seems the wedding will have to be postponed,” the police said.
