UNITED NATIONS, July 24 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will participate in an informal meeting between members of the UN Security Council and a delegation of the opposition Syrian National Coalition, Russia’s UN mission said Wednesday.
The meeting, which will take place Friday, has been initiated by Britain to discuss key issues relating to the Syria conflict, ways of putting an end to violence, and preparations for a second Geneva conference.
British Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant said Tuesday that the Syrian delegation would be led by Coalition President Ahmed al-Jarba, a Saudi-backed tribal leader.
According to UN data, nearly 100,000 people have been killed in the Syria conflict.
