WASHINGTON, July 24 (RIA Novosti) – Russian singer and actress Larisa Dolina will make her Broadway debut in the musical “Chicago” this August, Playbill.com reported Wednesday.
Dolina will play the role of “Mama” Morton, taking over from US television and radio personality Wendy Williams. Well-known in Russia for her popular concert programs and regular media appearances, Dolina will star in eight performances at the Ambassador Theatre in New York Aug. 13-18, according to Playbill.com.
The musical’s producers have drawn upon international talent in their casting choices before, recruiting stars from Latin America and Japan to appeal to the international tourist market. Regarding Dolina, producer Barry Weissler said in a statement: “I'm looking forward to welcoming our Russian fans both old and new as well."
After the Broadway run, Dolina will return to Russia where she will reprise the role in October. A Moscow-based production of “Chicago” experienced a short run in Moscow last decade.
