NOVOSIBIRSK, July 25 (RIA Novosti) – An albino African hedgehog at the Moscow petting zoo has given birth to triplets, a zoo employee said Thursday.
The first-time mother, two-year-old Marusya, was brought to the Moscow petting zoo from its Novosibirsk branch two months ago, the zoo said.
“Albino hedgehogs don’t usually breed in captivity. If people keep a standard hedgehog at home, it might give birth, but to no more than two babies. But we saw the arrival of triplets on July 23,” said zoo employee Yevgenia Polonskaya.
The zoo has appealed to visitors via its site and social networking page for help in choosing names for the baby hedgehogs, which, Polonskaya said, will remain in Moscow.
