MOSCOW, July 25 (R-Sport) - The body of superbike rider Andrea Antonelli, who was killed in a crash at Russia’s Moscow Raceway last week, has been sent home to Italy, a spokesman for the Italian Embassy in Moscow said Thursday.
Antonelli was killed Sunday when he fell from his motorbike in extremely wet conditions during a Supersport race and was struck by another rider’s bike. He died 40 minutes later from severe head injuries.
“I can confirm that the body of the dead racer has already been sent to Italy,” embassy spokesman Agostino Pinna told RIA Novosti.
The Russian authorities are carrying out an investigation of the incident. One leading superbike rider, Marco Melandri, has claimed the fatal race should not have been held because the track was too wet.
