Navy Day is celebrated in Russia on the last Sunday of July. This year it was July 28.

The Russian Navy comprises naval strategic nuclear forces and general-purpose naval forces. Structurally, the Navy consists of the Northern, Pacific, Baltic and Black Sea Fleets as well as the Caspian Flotilla.

The first Navy Day was celebrated in Russia in the 18th century, on the orders of Tsar Peter the Great. On July 27 (August 8 New Style), 1714, the Russian navy won its first victory in the Battle of Gangut during the Great Northern War (1700-1721).

Black Sea Fleet seamen after the Navy Day parade in which Russian and Ukrainian warships reenacted different historical battles for Sevastopol residents and visitors.

Sevastopol residents and visitors could see the traditional flag hoisting ceremony on the Russian Black Sea and Ukrainian warships, attend a concert and visit an exhibition of military equipment.

Baltiysk residents and visitors enjoyed the passage of the Baltic Fleet warships through the ship channel, the landing of commando and Marines groups and a simulated helicopter evacuation of the crew of a vessel in distress.

Concerts and fireworks were the finale of the naval base celebrations.
