MOSCOW, August 1 (R-Sport) - Danish swimmer Rikke Moller Pedersen set a new world record in the women’s 200 meter breaststroke Monday at the world aquatics championships in Barcelona.
Pedersen swam a time of 2 minutes 19.11 seconds in the semifinals, beating US swimmer Rebecca Soni’s previous world best of 2:19.59 from last year’s Olympics.
It is the third record to fall at the championships after Lithuanian 16-year-old Ruta Meilutyte’s record-breaking swim in the 100m breaststroke Monday and American Katie Ledecky’s new best in the 1,500m freestyle Tuesday.
