MOSCOW, August 2 (RIA Novosti) – Fifty-three percent of Russians are positive about the United States, though that figure showed a 3 percent decline from last year, independent pollster Levada Center said Friday, citing a recent poll.
Conversely, 36 percent said their attitude toward the United States was negative, a 4 percent rise on last year. Eleven percent said they were uncertain.
The respondents were asked to express their attitude toward the United States, the European Union, Ukraine and Belarus. Eighty-eight percent said they were positive about Belarus, 77 percent Ukraine, and 64 percent the EU.
Last year, the figures were 82, 71 and 66 percent, respectively.
Negative attitudes toward Belarus, Ukraine and the EU were respectively expressed by 7, 18 and 24 percent this year. Last year, those figures were 11, 22 and 20 percent.
