MOSCOW, August 5 (R-Sport) - Ex-Phoenix Coyotes forward Viktor Tikhonov Jr. has signed a new two-year contract with big-spending KHL team SKA St. Petersburg, the club said Monday.
Right wing Tikhonov, who is named after his grandfather, a legendary Soviet coach, is a valuable part of the SKA offense and finished last season with 27 points from 39 games.
In the playoffs, the 25-year-old turned up the heat with 18 points from 15 games as SKA reached the Western Conference finals. His previous contract expired in April.
Tikhonov played his sole NHL season with Phoenix in 2008-09, racking up 16 points in 61 games.
