WASHINGTON, August 6 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian pianist Valentina Lisitsa, who has racked up more than 40 million views of her performances on YouTube, will perform at the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago next week, according to her official website.
Lisitsa, 39, was born in Kiev and began playing piano when she was 3 years old, garnering early acclaim. But her career stalled after she won the prestigious Dranoff International Two Piano Competition in 1991.
Then in 2007, while living in the United States, she posted a video of a performance on YouTube, a move that would resurrect her career, Lisitsa told the Daily Telegraph last year.
Lisitsa, who currently lives in North Carolina, has since performed internationally and released records through the Decca Records label, according to her official website.
Lisitsa’s Chicago performance is one of only she has scheduled in North America this year. She will perform a program of the Russian composers Rachmaninov, Schedrin and Borodin, according to the festival's website.
