MOSCOW, August 7 (RIA Novosti) – An Antonov An-26 plane that made an emergency landing Wednesday outside Moscow belongs to the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet, the Defense Ministry said.
The An-26 plane made an emergency landing Wednesday morning at the Ostafyevo military airbase about 30 km (19 miles) south of the center of Moscow.
“The An-26 plane from the Northern Fleet’s naval aviation division, which was flying from the Kipelovo aerodrome in the Vologda region [northwest Russia] to the Taganrog aerodrome [south Russia], made an emergency landing at the Ostafyevo alternate airdrome,” the ministry said, adding that the plane had been landed normally.
During the flight, an alarm went off signaling problems with the fuel system, and in keeping with procedure, the crew landed the plane at a nearby alternate aerodrome, the ministry said.
The causes of the activation of the warning system are being investigated, it said.
The Interior Ministry’s transportation department said there were five crewmembers aboard the plane.
“According to preliminary information, no one was hurt in the incident,” the department said.
