MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) – Four people were killed Sunday in central Russia after a bulldozer toppled off the truck on which it was being transported and fell onto a passing car, local police said.
“During a right turn by the truck, a bulldozer fell from the trailer’s platform onto an approaching Ford Focus car,” police from the Kirov region said in a statement posted online. “As a result of the road accident the driver and three passengers of the Ford car (a family – husband, wife, young daughter and father in law) were killed.”
The accident took place on a stretch of federal highway in the Orlovsky district of the Kirov region. The truck transporting the bulldozer was likely to have been traveling too fast for the road conditions, according to police.
About 30,000 people lose their lives every year in Russian road traffic accidents, mainly due to the poor state of highway networks and reckless driving.
