MOSCOW, August 15 (RIA Novosti) - A suspected militant has been killed in Dagestan in a clash with police, an Interior Ministry spokesman has said.
“A group of about three armed men was discovered by Interior Ministry officers during manhunt activities near the Endirei village Wednesday,” the spokesman said Wednesday.
“A clash followed, and one of the bandits was killed,” he said.
The identity of the man is being established. The other suspects escaped to the woods.
The Islamist insurgency, once confined largely to the republic of Chechnya, has spread across the North Caucasus in recent years. Attacks on security forces, police and civilians are reported regularly in the neighboring republics of Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
