MOSCOW, August 16 (R-Sport) - Reigning world and Olympic 100 meter hurdles champion Sally Pearson put on a display of pace in her heat at the world athletics championships in Moscow Friday.

Pearson ran 12.62 seconds, her best time this season, as she beat France's Cindy Billaud into second by 0.05 seconds. The other two automatic qualifiers are Anne Zagre of Belgium and Russia's Tatyana Degtaryeva.

Meanwhile, Queen Harrison of the United States reached the semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles with a solid run.

Harrison seemed to leave something in reserve – she was first over the line in 12.95 seconds, more than half a second off her personal best. Harrison, who competed in the 400m hurdles at last year’s Olympics, is having her best season yet in the shorter event.

The other qualifiers from her heat were Alina Talay of Belarus, Danielle Williams of Jamaica and Canada’s Jessica Zelinka.

The first four in each of the five heats qualify for Saturday’s semifinals, as do the four fastest other runners across the heats.
