MOSCOW, August 17 (R-Sport) - Vitezslav Vesely of the Czech Republic won the gold medal in javelin at the world athletics championships in Moscow on Saturday.
Vesely, the current European champion, added the world title to his name with a mark of 87.17 at Luzhniki stadium.
Finland's Tero Pitkamaki, the 2007 gold medalist, won silver at 87.07.
Russia's Dmitri Tarabin, 21, cemented bronze with a mark of 86.23.
Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen, who had won four straight world championships medals, finished seventh at 81.06.
Vesely's gold gives his country three medals heading into Sunday, the final day of competition. Pitkamaki was Finland's first and Tarabin grew Russia's total to 15.
