MOSCOW, August 21 (R-Sport) – World Women’s Tennis No. 3 Maria Sharapova of Russia will be coached by her father Yury at next week's US Open, tennis.com reported Wednesday.

Sharapova decided to split from her previous coach, US tennis legend Jimmy Connors, after the first match under his guidance, suffering a second-round defeat to Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati last week.

She will now return to her father, who worked alongside the coaches in her employment until she underwent shoulder surgery in 2008, the report said.

Sharapova was eliminated in a stunning upset in the second round at Wimbledon in June and has been struggling with a thigh injury since then.

She won the US Open at the age of 19 in 2006, but since then she has made it past the fourth round only once, reaching the semifinals last year.
