MOSCOW, August 27 (R-Sport) – Russia’s Maria Kirilenko dumped Yanina Wickmayer with quick work at the US Open on Tuesday, beating her opponent 6-1, 6-1.
Kirilenko, the world No. 17, needed 29 minutes in the first set and 30 minutes in the second to eliminate the Belgian Wickmayer, who is ranked 57th, at Flushing Meadows.
Kirilenko won 86 percent of her first serve points and hit three aces to Wickmayer’s none as she improves to 2-1 lifetime against the Lier native.
Round 2 will see Kirilenko face Michelle Larcher De Brito of Portugal.
