SEOUL, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - A team of South Korean inspectors crossed the border with North Korea Wednesday morning to inspect a resort venue for the first reunions of families separated by the Korean War in three years, Yonhap news agency reported.

The two Koreas agreed last Friday to use the Mount Kumgang resort in a North Korean border area for holding the reunions between September 25 and 30, according to the agency.

The agreement to restore the holding of family reunions came after both Koreas agreed earlier this month to reopen their troubled joint industrial area, the Kaesong industrial park.

Tensions mounted on the Korean Peninsula earlier this year after North Korea conducted new nuclear tests.

Pyongyang threatened Seoul and the United States with war and closed off the joint industrial zone in Kaesong following a new round of international sanctions, but later expressed its willingness to negotiate.

The two Koreas remain technically "at war" since no formal peace treaty was signed when the Korean War ended with an armistice in 1953.
