MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – A Siberian man who racked up a 130,000 ruble ($4,000) debt in missed utilities payments was detained at his wedding, just after saying, “I do,” authorities said Tuesday.

The man, an avid hunter and fisherman who had fled into the Russian taiga to elude the long arm of the law, reportedly returned to civilization intent on marrying his bride. But court marshals got word of the wedding, and showed up to nab him, the marshal service said in a statement.

The groom, who made a living as an outdoorsman, agreed to give up his Krasnoyarsk Region apartment to be pardoned, and the residence is now property of the district administration, the marshal service said. The man reportedly moved his things to his wife’s home.

This is the second time in a week that the marshal service makes national headlines. Just days ago, marshals in the Kirov Region said they had seized a portrait of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from an indebted businessman to put it up for sale – though they gave him a portrait of President Vladimir Putin in exchange, state newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta reported.
