* The Syrian opposition’s National Coordination Committee for Democratic Change said Wednesday that it had proposed that Russia oversee the war-torn country’s chemical weapons until a transitional government is formed

* Members of the European Parliament are officially nominating fugitive US leaker Edward Snowden for a prize celebrating freedom of thought, a parliamentary representative said

* Tehran will pursue its peaceful nuclear program and will not yield to pressure to scrap it, since it has no intention of acquiring nuclear weapons, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Wednesday, adding that his country was seeking to resolve contentions about the program through talks
