NEW YORK, September 12 (RIA Novosti) – Syria is ready to follow the international convention banning chemical weapons, Damascus said in letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Syria – which is not a signatory to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction – agrees to comply with the agreement’s provisions before officially signing it, according to the letter, obtained by RIA Novosti on Thursday.
Syrian President Bashar Assad said earlier in the day that Syria would send its bid to join the convention to the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in a few days.
