MOSCOW, September 16 (R-Sport) – Ivorian forward Seydou Doumbia has been named in the CSKA Moscow squad for Tuesday's Champions League opener against Bayern Munich despite a niggling thigh injury, the Russians announced Monday.
Doumbia has been out of action since August 30, when he was substituted after scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Amkar Perm, with team officials fearing he would be sidelined until mid-October.
But the 25-year-old was named in Leonid Slutsky's 19-man squad to fly to Bavaria on Monday. Another surprise inclusion is that of 37-year-old Bosnian midfielder Elvir Rahimic, who is yet to make an appearance this season. Midfielders Alan Dzagoev, Rasmus Elm and Zoran Tosic are all expected to miss the game due to injuries.
CSKA is in a tricky group with reigning champions Bayern, Manchester City and Viktoria Plzen.
