MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) – A 20-year-old man who shared a passion for mysticism and “black magic” with a 23-year-old friend in southern Russia stabbed his friend five times in the heart because the friend promised to “resurrect” himself, police said Monday.

The deceased, whose body was found on a river bank in the Rostov Region last week, “believed in things like parallel worlds and reincarnation,” police said in a statement.

“He gathered a group of young men who were also interested in mysticism. He told them that they all possessed a hidden power that could be revealed only through a person’s death and subsequent resurrection,” the statement said.

Investigators said the deceased had previously tried to prove his theory through multiple suicide attempts, including by hanging himself and overdosing on medication. He recently spent three days in coma in a local hospital.

This time, the 23-year-old asked his friend, who shared the same views, to help him complete the killing and even provided him with a knife, police said.

The 23-year-old “took about 30-40 pills of a strong medication, and his friend, who had consumed some alcohol beforehand, stabbed him in the heart five times,” police said.
