MOSCOW, September 17 (RIA Novosti) – Thirty-one percent of Russians report glimpsing the future after hitting the hay, according to a new poll on the nation’s dreams.
However, half the respondents in the survey by the independent Levada Center released Monday said they had never experienced a prophetic dream, while 19 percent, inexplicably, were undecided.
Levada has carried out similar polls four times since 2006, but previous years’ questions focused on whether people believed in prophetic dreams – not whether or not they had them.
The number of “believers” peaked at 59 percent in 2008, but plummeted to 43 percent last February.
When asked what they dream about, 32 percent respondents in the latest poll named relationships with those close to them, followed by childhood or youth (20 percent) and work (18 percent).
Thirteen percent of Russians polled say they get nightmares and 6 percent said they have erotic dreams.
Only 20 percent of people polled said they dream every night; another 26 percent said they remember dreaming at least once a week, and 17 percent said once a month. Eighteen percent of Russians said they never dream.
Twenty-seven percent of the respondents said they remember most of their dreams, 33 percent said they only have a partial memory of their dreams and 28 percent said they rarely remember their dreams.
The nationwide poll was held in late August among 1,600 respondents and had a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
