MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – A retired KGB officer has been shot dead by an unidentified killer at a rural community in the Moscow region, a local police source told RIA Novosti Thursday.
The victim, born 1928, was found with a single gun-shot wound to the head in the Nara Gardeners’ Community, which on a map looks like a pentagon-shaped group of summer houses and gardens near a village outside Moscow, the source said.
Police have launched a murder investigation.
“So far it has been established that the killer fled the scene in a Mercedes car stolen from the victim,” Moscow region police spokesperson Irina Gumennaya said.
A statement on the Moscow Region Investigative Committee website did not identify the victim as a former KGB officer. It also said that stealing the car was a possible motive for the murder.
The identity of the victim has not been made public.
