MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – While Russian President Vladimir Putin’s perceived support of the Syrian regime has brought him much flak in the Western media, his efforts to block a US attack on the country have scored him serious points at home – including with showgirls from Moscow’s “most prestigious” strip club.
“Burn the dance floors, not houses,” is January’s motto, featuring a photo of two scantily clad girls dancing under a rain of confetti, in the “Make Love, Not War” calendar, released by the Golden Girls strip club on Thursday.
About two dozen strippers with the club took part in the calendar, which was printed in Russian and English and features erotic photos for each month, though no full nudity.
In May’s photo, a leather-clad dominatrix named “LuckyCat” advocates “aggression, pleasing both sides” as she pulls back the hair of another girl crying out in pleasure.
The calendar will only to be given out to selected club members, a spokesman said, adding that a copy would also be presented to a public reception office for the Kremlin, which has not commented on the initiative.
The club’s owner, Sergei Li, said the idea for the calendar came in one of his daily meetings with the dancers.
“One of our girls suddenly said that war is her biggest concern because it can affect anyone,” Li told the RB.ru news site. “I started asking the other girls whether they knew about the war in Syria, and I found that many were following the news.”
“The calendar is a great way to simultaneously show that there’s more depth to showgirls than most people believe, as well as to draw people’s attention to the situation in Syria,” Li said.
Putin has adamantly opposed recent US plans to attack Syrian government forces in retaliation for their alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians. America put the plans on hold after Russia proposed placing Syria’s chemical arsenal under international control.
More than 100,000 people have been killed so far in the 2 1/2-year-long civil war, according to the most recent UN estimates.
Putin, 60, recently divorced, also received an erotic calendar from female fans at Moscow State University’s faculty of journalism in 2010. The calendar, in which the students posed in negligee, was titled “Vladimir Vladimirovich, We Love You!”
