MOSCOW, September 21 (R-Sport) - A moment of inspiration from Wanderson brought FC Krasnodar a 1-0 win away to Terek Grozny in the Russian Premier League on Saturday even though their opponents dominated the match.
Europe-chasing Krasnodar's three points lift them to fifth, while Terek's miserable start to the season continued with a ninth-straight winless match. The Chechen team are 15th and in the relegation zone.
The winning goal was scored on 14 minutes by Pavel Mamaev, but the plaudits were earned by Brazilian striker Wanderson, who set up the goal with a deft backheel flick over the Terek defensive line, leaving his teammate with an easy finish.
After the goal, Krasnodar shut up shop and indeed registered just one other shot at goal during the game, while Terek had 14 attempts but were let down by wayward finishing - just one of those was on target.
Earlier, the weekend’s first of two Moscow derbies saw Lokomotiv beat Dynamo 3-1 amid refereeing controversy, and there was a 1-1 draw between Ural Yekaterinburg and Krylya Sovetov Samara.
Later Saturday, FC Krasnodar visit Terek Grozny.
Sunday sees the weekend’s other derby as Spartak and CSKA clash, as well as Anzhi Makhachkala’s trip to FC Volga, Rubin Kazan’s meeting with FC Tomsk, FC Kuban hosting Amkar Perm and Zenit St. Petersburg heading south to play FC Rostov.
