TULA, September 27 (RIA Novosti) – Two would-be robbers who were trying to break into a mobile phone store but mistakenly found themselves in a lingerie shop instead were arrested on Friday in Bogoroditsk, a town outside Moscow, regional investigators said.
Police rushed to the scene of the lingerie store on Thursday night, after the shop’s burglar alarm was tripped at about 10 p.m., and discovered that the glass front door had been smashed, said a statement by the local branch of the Interior Ministry.
The police saw the two suspects fleeing the scene in the direction of nearby houses and caught them, taking them into the department for further questioning. The suspects’ names have not been disclosed.
It was during questioning that the police found out that the thieves’ original plan was not to steal women’s undergarments. The two 33-year-old locals actually thought they were breaking into the cell phone store, but got confused by the shop’s layout and relative darkness.
The mistake was the robbers’ second blundered crime of the day, the statement said. Earlier in the afternoon, they tried to rob a cafe at knifepoint – but the cashier escaped through a service entrance and took refuge in a beauty salon next store.
Though they didn’t manage to steal anything, the suspects will be charged with robbery, the statement said.
