MOSCOW, September 28 (RIA Novosti) – Ninety two children and two women were rescued as Chinese police busted a “massive” human trafficking network in 11 provinces across the country, detaining 301 suspects, the Ministry of Public Security said.
Investigations began in March, and the arrests were made on September 11, the ministry said in the statement.
Children were kidnapped in China's southwest provinces of Yunnan and Sichuan and then transported to other regions to sellers, according to the statement.
The ministry said it is now collaborating with the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office in drafting legislation to institute harsher punishment both for traffickers and for buyers.
It also aims to provide severe punishment for parents selling their children.
