Investigators in Russia said Wednesday that an elderly music teacher whose students included celebrated pianist and conductor Mikhail Pletnev has been found murdered in the basement of her country home outside Moscow.

MOSCOW, October 2 (RIA Novosti) – Investigators in Russia said Wednesday that an elderly music teacher whose students included celebrated pianist and conductor Mikhail Pletnev has been found murdered in the basement of her country home outside Moscow.

The Investigative Committee said Tatiana Stoklitskaya, a former teacher at the Moscow Conservatory, was found Tuesday with her hands and feet bound and with a bag taped over her head.

Police said her family contacted authorities after she stopped coming to work and missed her 75th birthday celebration late last month.

Russian investigators believe Stoklitskaya may have been killed for financial reasons as valuables appeared to have gone missing from her Moscow apartment.

“The body has been sent for forensic medical examination to establish the exact cause of death,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Two people suspected of involvement with the case have been detained, officials said.

Stoklitskaya had been a musical pitch teacher at the Central School of Music at the Moscow Conservatory since 1963. She taught several prominent and respected musicians during her career, among them Pletnev, violinist Pavel Kogan – who currently conducts the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra – and pianist Yuri Rozum.
